Tonight

I worked from 2:45 PM to 7:45 PM.  I went in, and learned masks will be required of even the vaccinated.  This is an expected development.  Hence why I continued to wear my mask.  To social distance.  Eventually, a time will come when it will lo longer be time to wear a mask and social distance.  But right now, that is the way of things.  All I did today was gather carts, and sweep the side walk.  I need to get in there and start bagging.  After all, that is a part of my job.  I helped a couple customers with groceries though.   I just took out the garbage.  Garbage here on my street is Tuesday, and Friday.  That means setting out the trash on Monday Night and Thursday night.  Also, on Thursday night the recycle goes out as well.  Not to interesting.  But it does set myself a good reminder. What is interesting is that my brother William handed me a copy of Mapping America : Exploring the Continent...

The Storm Outside

Today, I worked as a Courtesy clerk.  I worked from 10 PM to 5:45 PM.  I mostly gathered carts, did trashes on the Front End, and did returns, or go backs.  I had a lunch.  I used lunch to purchase a deli sandwich, a Dr. Pepper, and a pack of cigarettes.  Then, after that, a thunderstorm began.   At first the sky threatened rain.  Then, by 4:30 PM it began to rain.  Then, there was lightening and thunder.  According to my Dad it rained "3 inches" in North Texas.  There was more than one storm in the area. After I got off work, I came home and tried to let Max out.  But he did not want to go out.  I had to be patient with him.  So, I went ahead and let him stay in, prepared to clean the mess up.  But so far, Max has done fine. I made coffee.  I did not think much more of the storm.  I lay down while my coffee brewed.  As I lay down, I closed my eyes, but was awoken by a flash of lightening, an...

Hope You Are Having a Good Day

How are you doing?  Well, I hope.  Tonight I close at Albertsons.  This will be my second time closing.  I hope I measure up to the task.  Yesterday I left my cigarettes at home.  I did fine.  I am going to leave my cigarettes at home again.  I think by not smoking at work, I will do better at my job.     There are reports that the COIVD-19 is on the rise again.  This time, it is something called, the "Delta" variant.  Some states have already gone back to using mask mandates.  Other states are busy working out what they will do for schools.       I read some more in my book.  The Flying Tigers .  The last day of peace for the United States as December 6, 1941.  The next day, the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor.  The AVG suddenly had a different mission, from trying to secretly help the Chinese.  To actually being participants in the war.  the AVG was bro...

A Few Minutes To Write

I have a few minutes to write.  Not much to say.  At work, they spoke to me about my hygiene.  I need to be careful to shower before work.  But I usually do.  I usually shower before work.  But the other night I showered before bed.  I think time passed, and I began to stink.  Well, I will make sure to shower before work instead this time.   I'm just drinking my coffee right now.  One sip at a time.  After I shower I will have plenty of time for more coffee.  I brewed a whole pot.  Maybe William will leave some for me. Oh that is right.  William is back again.  He took his road trip across the country.  He saw Colorado, Washington, Oregon, and California.  He used the BLM (Bureau of Land Management) camp grounds.  They are free, open to anyone camp grounds provided by the Bureau of Land Management.   William is in the process of getting an apartment and a job.  He wants to...

Me and Coffee

Coffee helps me enjoy my morning.  I am not sure why, but I have been enjoying plain coffee lately, from the gas station.  I just look around and sit back and sip.  I enjoy it.   How did I come to enjoy coffee? I do not have any pictures of that time.  But it all began onboard USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63).  I can remember being in the space, and pouring my first true cup of coffee.  I did not even put sugar in it.  It was hot.  To hot perhaps.  I just sipped on the coffee.  I did not even know the rules of the coffee pot at the time.  Of course, these were the Navy rules.  For all I knew, I was not supposed to be drinking coffee.  But the ship's crew allowed me to have a cup each day. I remember all the ports that the Kitty Hawk went to for that underway.  First, we went to Hong Kong.  Hong Kong was an unusual port, because the carrier cannot pull in to Hong Kong.  So, we had to take liberty boats. ...
